⚔️ 960 YEARS AGO — THE BATTLE THAT CHANGED ENGLAND FOREVER

On October 14, 1066, two armies fought for the English throne near Hastings.

King Harold II led the English forces against William, Duke of Normandy, who had crossed the English Channel to claim the crown.

The English formed a defensive shield wall on high ground, resisting repeated Norman attacks. After hours of fierce fighting, Harold was killed and his army was defeated.

William went on to be crowned King of England on December 25, 1066, becoming known as William the Conqueror.

But the Norman Conquest was more than a change of king. It transformed England's ruling class, government, language, architecture and culture for generations.

One battle. One crown. Centuries of consequences.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Imagine if Harold had won. How different might England be today?
